Circa 1996…The easiest way to see Zion National Park’s Narrows is to travel by shuttle bus from the lower parking lot to the Temple of Sinowava and then hike up into the traditional Narrows. This hike is incredibly popular and an absolute-must for any visit to Zions. Be mindful there is no way not to get wet and most of the hike is in the water, traversing over moss-laden bowling-ball size rocks in the Virgin River. However, for the more adventuresome-type (like me) you can travel up and onto the desert plateau and drop into the canyon, high above the Narrows. This hike offers nearly 15 miles of incredible canyon narrows, wildlife, log jams, and scenic box canyons off the main trail. The final reward is the traditional Narrows seen in picture three. This particular trip was taken with several fellow EFY counselors. It was on this very trip that I ‘drank from the magical spring waters’ declaring my intent to marry my friend Kimberly. It worked. Fourteen years and six kids later, I’m still adventuring with my best friend.
